First People of the Millewa-Mallee Aboriginal Corporation (FPMMAC) is a dynamic organisation formed by the Latji Latji, Ngintait, and Nyeri Nyeri peoples, the Traditional Owners and Custodians of Country. As the appointed Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) for a significant area in North West Victoria, FPMMAC holds crucial functions and responsibilities to protect and manage Aboriginal cultural heritage.

Job Description:
Are you passionate about Aboriginal cultural heritage and want to work on Country to protect it for future generations? FPMMAC are seeking a  Cultural Heritage Field Officer  to support their growing responsibilities under the Aboriginal Heritage Act and Regulations. This role is vital in ensuring cultural heritage is respected, protected, and managed in line with Traditional Owner values.

You’ll be part of a team that values intergenerational knowledge transfer, community collaboration, and cultural integrity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in coordinating cultural heritage fieldwork across FPMMAC Country
  • Support the development and delivery of Cultural Heritage Management Plans (CHMPs)
  • Conduct site inspections, inductions, and archaeological surveys
  • Liaise with Sponsors and Heritage Advisors
  • Help develop training materials and guide new staff
  • Participate in assessments for CHMPs, Cultural Heritage Permits, and related agreements
  • Support repatriation and management of cultural objects and collections
  • Work respectfully with Traditional Owners, staff, and stakeholders
  • Travel across Country, including overnight stays
  • Comply with all safety policies, procedures and work instructions to support a safe work environment for all staff.
About You
  • Tertiary qualification in heritage or related field, or 1–2 years of relevant experience
  • Understanding of the Aboriginal Heritage Act (2006) and Regulations (2018)
  • Knowledge of cultural heritage issues in Northwest Victoria
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build partnerships
  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and ACHRIS
  • Physical fitness and willingness to travel
  • A current Driver’s Licence
